Down by a score of 2-1 after two innings in the winner-take-all City Championship game, AJ Tutoring head coach said his team was “supporting each other, staying positive.” He didn’t have to worry as AJ Tutoring scored 16 runs—yes, 16 runs—in the next three innings to capture the 2026 City Championship with a 17-2 victory over OneStream on May 17.
OneStream handed AJ its first loss of the Palo Alto Little League City Championship tournament on Saturday and set the stage for the Sunday evening rematch. Timely two-out hitting and patience at the plate by OneStream, coupled with some shaky defense by AJ, were the keys to OneStream’s 9-3 victory on Saturday.
Sunday’s game looked like more of the same when AJ Tutoring fell behind 2-0 after one inning. But from then on, it was all AJ Tutoring!
Eric Tian allowed just two hits over the last four innings. He pitched a complete game and finished the game with six strikeouts. At the plate, he also crushed two doubles.
Tian was supported by Henry Abrams, Mateo Benford Garcia, Maxell Ng, Joseph Wiser, and Madison Wu who each contributed two RBIs in AJ’s winning effort.
Nifty defense played a part as well. With the outcome still in doubt in the fourth inning, Andres Arballo turned an unassisted double play and Mateo Benford Garcia gunned down a runner at the plate from center field.
AJ Tutoring pounded out 12 hits and was issued 6 walks by the depleted OneStream pitching staff. OneStream played six games in eleven days, coming out of the elimination bracket by winning four games in a row to set up the championship finale. In their valiant losing effort, Arjun Vernal had two of OneStream’s three hits, and Dylan Wu had two RBIs.
AJ Tutoring’s head coach Bob Wiser said, “I’m so happy for and proud of these kids that their efforts and growth throughout the season resulted in the championship. Their teamwork … and their extra work on their own led to our success.”
The AJ Tutoring team included Henry Abrams, Andres Arballo, Joshua Azzi, Mateo Benford Garcia, Maxwell Ng, Russell Ng, Naohiro Otake, Hannah Rubin, Eric Tian, Jeffrey Tian, Joseph Wiser, and Madison Wu. AJ Tutoring’s head coach Bob Wiser was assisted by Phil Arballo, Jason Benford, and Bryan Rubin.
League president Matt Robles summed up the game and the season. “This championship was everything that makes Palo Alto Little League special—incredible competition, teammates lifting each other up, families packed around the field, and kids playing baseball in one of the most beautiful settings anywhere.”
