In a highly anticipated winner-take-all rematch in the Palo Alto Little League Majors tournament, AJ Tutoring fell behind early and then exploded with three multi-run innings to capture the 2026 City Championship defeating OneStream on May 17 by a score of 17-2.
OneStream handed AJ its only loss of the tournament on Saturday, which set the stage for the Sunday evening rematch.
After its 9-3 victory on Saturday, OneStream started with more of the same on Sunday. Walks, once again, plagued AJ Tutoring, as both OneStream batters who walked in the bottom of the first scored, and AJ took an early 2-0 lead.
AJ eked out one run in the second, and AJ’s starting pitcher Eric Tian recovered from a shaky first inning to retire OneStream in order in the bottom of the second.
Down 2-1 after two innings, AJ Tutoring’s offense took over.
In the third with two out and the bases loaded, a walk, single, and double (Tian’s second of the game) led to four runs. Tian then worked out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom half of the inning and AJ held a 5-2 lead head after three innings.
In the fourth, AJ connected for five hits—including back-to-back doubles by Joseph Wiser and Maxwell Ng—and scored six runs. One Stream committed three errors in the fifth, which led to another six-run inning for AJ and the 17-2 final.
In addition to Tian’s hitting, Henry Abrams, Mateo Benford Garcia, Maxell Ng, Joseph Wiser, and Madison Wu each contributed two RBIs in AJ’s winning effort. The final tally for AJ Tutoring was twelve hits and six walks, and they benefited from four OneStream errors.
Eric Tian pitched a complete game, allowed no runs and two hits over the last four innings; he finished the game with six strikeouts.
Tian was helped by strong defense in the fourth inning by an unassisted double play by Andres Arballo and by Mateo Benford Garcia gunning down a runner at the plate from center field, which put an end to a budding OneStream rally.
At the game’s conclusion, AJ Tutoring’s head coach Bob Wiser said, “I’m so happy for and proud of these kids that their efforts and growth throughout the season resulted in the championship. They really bought together teamwork, supporting each other, staying positive, and putting in extra work on their own.”
In a valiant losing effort, Arjun Vernal had two of OneStream’s three hits, and Dylan Wu had two RBIs. OneStream won four straight games in the elimination bracket and proved a worthy opponent for AJ Tutoring.
The AJ Tutoring team included Henry Abrams, Andres Arballo, Joshua Azzi, Mateo Benford Garcia, Maxwell Ng, Russell Ng, Naohiro Otake, Hannah Rubin, Eric Tian, Jeffrey Tian, Joseph Wiser, and Madison Wu. AJ Tutoring’s head coach Bob Wiser was assisted by Phil Arballo, Jason Benford, and Bryan Rubin.
