Agile’s Improbable Run to the City Championship Game
For the second year in a row, the lowest seeded team (Agile Physical Therapy) has advanced to the Palo Alto Little League City Championship game.
Agile lost its opening tournament game in a walk off but; since then Agile has recorded three straight wins and faces undefeated Bike Connection in the finals on Saturday, May 21, at 5:00 p.m. at Middlefield Ballpark.
In the loser’s bracket final, Agile put on an offensive show jumping out to a 7-3 lead over rival Hengehold after two innings, then added single runs in the fourth and fifth to take a commanding 9-3 lead.
But as this season has proven time and again, no lead is safe. Hengehold’s bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth scoring five runs, including a three-run homer by first baseman Sachin Gurunathan to bring them within one. Agile’s Tyler Savard came in to pitch in the sixth inning and stymied Hengehold’s last chance, securing Agile’s spot in the Championship game.
Will Agile continue its offensive onslaught? Or will Bike Connection’s ace pitching staff quiet the Agile bats and cap their perfect season with a championship? Find out this on Saturday, May 21, at Middlefield Ballpark (3672 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto).
