2020 Hit-a-thon

Our 2020 Hit-a-Thon has been postponed due to COVID-19. We'll update everyone when the season resumes

Hit-a-Thon Overview

The Hit-a-Thon is a league fundraiser and is similar to a walk-a-thon. Each player solicits sponsors who pledge to make a tax-deductible donation to PALL.

On March 13, 2020, each participant comes to the plate for 5 swings. The top 25 distance hitters will move into the finals on Opening Day, March 14, 2020.

Contests and Prizes!

In addition to fundraising, there is also a contest by division for the longest hit. Finals for the longest hit take place on March 14th.

There are also prizes for the team that raises the most money.

All players are welcome!

The Impact of our Hit-a-Thon

PALL offers a lot, and our families do a lot too to make this community successful. The registration fees alone do not cover everything necessary or everything we dream of for our teams’ experiences here. With this fundraiser, we can do more.

PALL’s biggest operating costs are the fields and equipment. We are the only D52 league that owns and maintains our own field. Middlefield is the district’s pride and joy and we want to make sure our kids have the best experience possible. Our recently renovated batting cages cost $65,000 and this fundraiser would help go towards offsetting those costs.

Our fundraising goal:

How it works

AA, PCL, AAA, Majors and Intermediate will use the pitching machine, operated by their manager or coach. Coach pitch teams will have an adult throw pitches. T-ball teams will use a tee. Each player gets 5 swings (not 5  pitches). Each miss or foul is counted as a swing.

Fundraising

PALL partners with 99Pledges to provide a website for secure payments. Each player has their own fundraising page. Supporters will find an option to pledge based ondistance, or pledge a flat amount. Supporters can pledge with credit card or pay by check. Starts February 11, closes March 12.

Volunteering

We would appreciate having a few parents in the field during your team's action, to help note the distance of each ball after it sails, bounces and rolls into the field. We can explain when you get there. We'd also appreciate a parent in the dugout to help make sure each player is ready for their turn.

    1. What is the Hit-A-Thon?  The league’s fundraiser and a great way for players to practice swinging for the fences.
    2. How does it work? Hit-a-thon is similar to a walk-a-thon. Each player solicits sponsors who pledge to make a tax-deductible donation to PALL
    3. Why is it important? Funds are used to purchase equipment, take care of the fields, provide participation scholarships for families in need, support coaches clinics, and keep registration fees low for all families. No matter how much money individuals raise, we encourage everyone to participate and to have a great time with this event.
    4. When does my team participate? Check out the detailed schedule when it’s available. Please plan to arrive 15-30 minutes before your team's start time and assemble in the dugout with your managers and coaches.
    5. What happens on each turn? AA, PCL, AAA, Majors and Intermediate will use the pitching machine, operated by their manager or coach. Coach pitch teams will have an adult throw pitches. T-ball teams will use a tee. Each player gets 5 swings (not 5  pitches). Each miss or foul is counted as a swing.  Check out the detailed rules.
    6. Do you need any help at the event? Yes please! We would appreciate having a few parents in the field during your team's action, to help note the distance of each ball after it sails, bounces and rolls into the field. We can explain when you get there. We'd also appreciate a parent in the dugout to help make sure each player is ready for their turn.
    7. Where is Hit-a-Thon and where should I park? Hit-a-Thon events will take place Middlefield Park. Please check the detailed schedule when it is available for your assigned field and time.
    8. What should we bring? Coaches and managers, please bring helmets, bats and balls for your players. Families, if your player uses their own helmet or bat, you may bring those. Helmets are required. Please have your player in uniform if possible.
    9. What is our fundraising goal? Our goal is to raise $50,000, working together across the league. The more players who participate, the better for PALL and the more fun we all have! The teams who win the group prizes usually have every single player participating.
    10. How can my relatives, friends and coworkers support Hit-A-Thon? PALL partners with 99Pledges to provide a website for secure payments. Each player has their own fundraising page. Supporters will find an option to pledge based on distance, or pledge a flat amount.
    11. Should supporters pledge a flat donation or a per-foot donation? Either way is great, and appreciated. Many sponsors find it easiest to provide a flat donation. Other sponsors will pledge a certain amount per foot.
    12. How do I get the word out to raise more money easily? Share your child's pledge page! Find your player in the list and start sharing! You can edit it or leave it as it is, and send the link in an email or post it on social media.
    13. When does fundraising close? Fundraising for the 2020 Hit-a-Thon will close on March 12, 2020.
    14. Can my player hit if we haven't raised funds? Players who raise a minimum of $25 are allowed to participate.

    16. Is this for T-ball too? This is for all levels - including T-ball! Big or small, experienced or new, please come out and watch your player swing for the fences!
