Alhouse 4-Cal Preserving 2: Alhouse advances to City Championship finals on Friday, May 17, at 6:00 p.m. at Middlefield Ballpark; Cal Preserving losers bracket.

Palo Alto Wealth Advisors 9-Hengehold 3: PAWA advances to losers bracket finals against Cal Preserving on Wednesday, May 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Middlefield Ballpark. Hengehold eliminated from the tournament–congratulations on a great season!

Hengehold 13-AJ Tutoring 8: Hengehold and and AJ Tutoring joined in a great battle through four innings of their elimination round game. Hengehold bolted to a 4-0 lead after two and one-half innings, but AJ tied the score in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run rally, highlighted by Guy Ruud’s double.

Hengehold seemingly put the game away with five runs in the fifth and four in the sixth that featured clutch hits by Siheon Park and Henry Steinwert-Arrowood. But AJ did not go away without a fight. They scored four in the bottom of the sixth and had two runners on base when the final out was recorded. Steinwert-Arrowood pitched five solid innings for Hengehold; Park and Milan Goda each had two hits.

AJ Tutoring is eliminated from the tournament–congratulations on a great season!

Palo Alto Wealth Advisors 13-Bike Connection 7: Palo Alto Wealth Advisors was looking in the eye of elimination in the second game of Saturday’s double header. Down 6-3 with two out in the fifth, PAWA got six hits and four walks from ten straight batters and scored ten runs in the fifth to snatch the victory. PAWA was sparked by doubles by Hobbs Hernandez (his third hit of the game) and by Toney Ara (his second hit of the game); Alonso Ontiveros and Connor Blair recorded back-to-back-doubles in the fifth as well.

Leo Abu-Ghoush and Jordan Fung each had two hits for Bike Connection in its losing cause. Bike Connection is eliminated from the torunament–congratulations on a great season!

Taverna 13-State of Mind 7; Taverna moves to PCL Championship finals; State of Mind moves to losers bracket

Alhouse 5-Palo Alto Wealth Advisors 3: Alhouse scored three runs in the first inning and built a 5-1 lead after three innings but had to hold off a furious rally by PAWA in the sixth inning to win. Alshouse advances to the winner bracket finals against Cal Preserving on Monday, May 13.

Dylan LaMere and Dhilan Chang held PAWA in check for five innings, but an error, single, and walk loaded the bases for PAWA in the sixth bringing the tying run to the plate. In relief, Logan Lai managed to limit the damage to two runs and registered two strike outs to secure the win for Alhouse. Lai also led Alhouse’s offense with three hits, and Timothy Choi chipped in with two hits. William Fellows had two hits for PAWA.

OneStream 4-Ada’s Cafe-3; In an elimination game that went down to the wire, OneStream scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth. Ada’s put the tying and winning runs on base in the bottom of the sixth, but OneStream’s pitcher Jack Fee (who also had two of OneStream’s four hits) managed to get out of the jam by striking out the last batter and clinch the win for OneStream. OneStream also got a big lift from So Yamaguchi who pitched two plus innings of no-hit ball.

Cal Preserving 4-AJ Tutoring 1:Matt Chen pitched a complete game three-hitter as Cal Preserving beat AJ Tutoring 4-1. Chen and Austin Carlson each had two hits for Cal Preserving. With the win Cal Preserving advances to winners bracket finals, while AJ Tutoring moves to losers bracket.

City Championship
AJ Tutoring won the first game of the City Championship tournament 13-12 over Bike Connection. Bike Connection spotted AJ Tutoring a 13-4 lead as they came to bat in the bottom of the third and staged a furious comeback over the next four innings but ultimately came up short. The last out of the game was recorded at home plate as a Bike Connection player was tagged out trying to score the tying run in the bottom of the sixth.

AJ Tutoring managed only five hits but parlayed thirteen walks issued by the Bike Connection pitching for their thirteen runs. AJ Tutoring scored ten runs in the second inning, which featured run-scoring extra base hits by Max Peterson and Paul Cordova.

Jordan Fung pitched three plus innings of no-hit relief to keep Bike Connection in the game.

In the tournament’s first big upset, State of Mind knocked off top seeded Instacoach by a score of 7-3. State of Mind pitchers Lucas Tsui and Gabe Ara limited the normally high scoring Instacoach team to three hits. State of Mind moves on to the Winners Bracket finals, while Instacoach must continue its quest for the title from the losers bracket.

Bad weather delayed the start of the PCL tournament from Saturday to Sunday, but it didn’t hamper the teams’ enthusiasm. In the tournament’s first game, State of Mind jumped out to a 5-1 lead after four innings and held on for a 10-6 victory over OneStream. State of Mind moves on to play number 1 seed Instacoach on Monday.

In the second game, Taverna scored early and often and rolled to a 12-0 win over Cacccia Plumbing. Taverna faces Ada’s Café on Tuesday.

OneStream and Caccia fall into the losers bracket and play later in the week.
