WIFFLE BALL

Wiffle Ball is an entry-level program that is a fun, easy way to get your 4-year-old or young 5 in Pre-K or TK outside and experiencing baseball. Your little one will have a great time while learning the basics of hitting, throwing, and catching and playing a fun game.

Practices and Games: Wiffle Ball games are late mornings on Sundays and last 45 minutes. A parent or guardian must be present throughout each session.

Key Dates: Registration closes on Feb. 13, 2025; play starts on March 23.

T-BALL

The T-Ball Division is for beginning players in kindergarten. Play is on a small diamond, and hitters use a tee and "safety" baseballs for an exciting batting and fielding experience at every outing! Your young one will experience being on a team and the thrill of playing friendly games against other Palo Alto teams.

Coaches focus on fun and teaching basic skills: throwing, catching, running, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Practices and Games: Teams practice once per week Monday through Friday at 4:30 P.M. or 6:00 P.M. The weekly one-hour practice schedules are determined by team managers after teams are formed in late February. Teams play one game per week on Saturdays, at various starting times.

COACH PITCH

The Coach Pitch Division is primarily for players in the first grade and for those in the second grade who request to play at the Coach Pitch level. Game play involves a coach pitching to his or her own players from a close distance. The level of play is intended to be more competitive than T-Ball but is still focused on fun and basic skill building.

Practices and games: Practices are on either Mondays or Wednesdays and games on either Tuesday or Thursday and every Saturday. Schedules are determined after teams are formed in late February.

AAA

The AA Division (formerly Machine Pitch) is primarily for second graders and for 9-year-olds with limited previous experience. Players progress to additional basic instructional training, and the game is played on a 60-foot diamond. The AA League uses a mechanical pitching machine operated by an adult to deliver pitches.

Practices and Games: AA teams usually play two games per week at Greer Park. One of the games is a weekday evening game and one game is on Saturday. Teams usually have one weekday field evening practice at Greer Park. Details vary by team and will be finalized when teams are formed.

AAA

The AAA Division (minor league) is a kid pitch league for 9- and 10-year-olds. They are progressing with additional instructional training and play on a 60-foot diamond.

AAA is the default league for 9-year-old players. (9-year-olds with limited experience may request to play at the AA level.) 10-year-old players are placed in this league after attending a minors division skills evaluation.

The AAA League introduces kids pitching to opponents; as a fallback, coaches pitch when necessary to maintain the pace of the game.

Practices and Games: AAA teams usually play two games per week at Greer Park. One of the games is a weekday evening game and one game is on Saturday. Teams usually have one weekday field evening practice at Greer Park. Details vary by team and will be finalized when teams are formed.

PCL

The PCL division (minor league) is a more competitive division with an instructional goal of preparing players for the Majors division. The majority of players in this division are 10- and 11-year-olds with a limited number of 9-year-olds. PCL instruction focuses on more advanced fundamentals. Scores and standings are kept.

PCL is the default league for 10-year-old players and for 11-year-olds who do not play in Majors.

Players participate in a pre-season evaluation and are drafted onto teams by managers.

At the end of the regular season, all PCL teams participate in the Palo Alto PCL city tournament. After the tournament, a subset of PCL and Majors players are invited to represent the Palo Alto Little League All-Star team in the 11u All-Star tournament in District 52.

Practices and Games: PCL teams usually play two games per week at either Middlefield Ballpark or Hoover Park. One of the games is a weekday evening game and one a Saturday game. PCL teams usually have one weekday field evening practice and one batting practice per week. Details vary by team and will be finalized when teams are formed. If you have time conflicts, please be sure to note them when registering--managers will do their best to honor requests.

Key Dates: Registration closes on Jan. 23, 2025. There is a mandatory tryout and skills evaluation on Tuesday-Wednesday, Jan. 28-29, 2025. Team practices start in February.

MAJORS

The Majors League is the most competitive and advanced division of preteen Little League baseball. Players aged 10 to 12 are eligible to be drafted into Majors after attending a skills evaluation. Players not drafted onto a Majors division team are placed into the PCL draft pool.

Majors is the default league for 12-year-old players.

At the end of the regular season, Majors teams participate in a Palo Alto Majors city tournament. After the city tournament has concluded, a subset of players are invited to represent the Palo Alto All-Star team in an All-Star tournament within District 52 and, if successful, all the way to Williamsport, PA.

Practices and Games: Majors usually play two games per week at Middlefield Ballpark: one game in the early evening (typically, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) and one game every Saturday. During the season, most teams practice one day per week and have batting practice once every week--but this is at the manager's discretion.s

Key Dates: Registration closes on Jan. 23, 2025. There are mandatory skills evaluations on Satuday-Sunday, Jan. 25-26, 2025. Team practices start in February.

JUNIORS & SENIORS

Juniors (54/80) is designed for players 12-14 years of age (as of Aug. 31, 2022) and play on a larger, 80-foot base path field but before moving to the larger 60/90 field. The game utilizes a 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot base paths. It's the perfect next step for baseball. Those who have "aged out" of 12-year-old Little League can register for Juniors and play baseball at the next level of

skill and size, have a chance to keep enjoying baseball, improve their skills, and play using true baseball rules including leading off base. It's a great step for players to take prior to the 60/90 diamond of Babe Ruth and high school. Teams play against other local bay area teams.

Seniors (60/90) offers players 15 and 16 years old, who are not playing on their high school teams the opportunity to continue playing during the spring on a regulation baseball field. Play is open to all 15- and 16-year-olds after the high school baseball season concludes. During the spring, teams play against other local Bay Area teams. In the summer, play continues against Bay Area teams with the chance to advance to district, regional, and national tournaments.
